Whitening uses a peroxide gel to lift stain out of the enamel and the dentine beneath it. It does not strip anything off the tooth and it does not weaken it. Done properly, with trays made to your own mouth, it is one of the safest things in dentistry.

01
What professional teeth whitening is
Whitening uses a peroxide gel to lift stain out of the enamel and the dentine beneath it. It does not strip anything off the tooth and it does not weaken it. Done properly, with trays made to your own mouth, it is one of the safest things in dentistry.
The short answer. A course of professional whitening in Antalya is £200. It lightens natural tooth only - crowns, veneers and fillings stay exactly the shade they were made. If you are having any of those, whiten first.
The reason it is worth doing under supervision is the gum. A tray that fits badly puts gel where it does not belong, and that is what causes the burning people describe from shop-bought kits.
02
What whitening can and cannot lift
It works on the ordinary accumulated staining of tea, coffee, red wine, tobacco and time. Most people move several shades.
It does not work on porcelain or composite - a crown at £170 is fired at the shade it is made and stays there. It struggles with grey tetracycline banding, and it will do nothing for a single dark root-treated tooth, which needs internal bleaching at £120 instead.
If your enamel is thin and the yellow you can see is the dentine underneath, whitening has little to lift. That is a case for veneers, and it is better to hear it before you pay for a course.

Most adults with healthy gums and no untreated decay. If you have gum disease, decay, or cracks, we’ll treat those first. Pregnant or breastfeeding? We usually wait. Severe sensitivity? We can still often help with a gentle protocol.

Impressions & Trays
We make custom trays that seal well around your teeth. This ensures even results and keeps the gel off your gums. Essential for take-home or combined plans.
03Boost
In-Clinic Session (Optional)
If chosen, we place gum barriers and apply a powerful whitening gel. We monitor your comfort and the shade change throughout the session.
04Home
Home Phase
You wear your trays as directed (usually 30–90 minutes/day). We show you the exact gel amounts and cleaning instructions to get the best lift.
05Finish
Review & Finishing
We check the final shade, polish, and if needed, replace front fillings to match. You get a top-up plan to keep your smile bright.
The record
Before & After Photos
07
Does whitening hurt, and is it safe?
The common side effect is short bursts of cold sensitivity during the course and for a day or two after. It is temporary and it does not mean damage. A desensitising paste for the fortnight beforehand takes most of it away.
What genuinely causes trouble is gel on the gums, which is a fit problem, and untreated decay, which lets peroxide reach the nerve. Both are found at the check-up beforehand. Anyone selling you whitening without looking in your mouth first is skipping the only part that makes it safe.
08
Whitening vs bonding vs veneers
Whitening at £200 a course changes colour and nothing else. It is the cheapest, least invasive option and it removes nothing from the tooth.
Veneers at £210 a tooth change colour and shape, and are the answer when the problem is not really stain. Composite bonding at £140 sits between the two.
The sequence matters more than the choice: whiten first, then match anything permanent to the result. Do it the other way round and you are stuck with the old shade in porcelain.
09
How long does teeth whitening last?
One to three years for most people, and the range is almost entirely diet. Heavy tea, coffee, red wine or tobacco pulls it back within a year; without those it holds for a good deal longer.
It is not a one-off purchase you have to repeat in full. Keep your trays, and a single top-up night once or twice a year holds the shade for very little.
10
Keeping teeth white afterwards
The first 48 hours matter most: the enamel is porous and takes up colour readily, so keep off coffee, red wine, curry and anything else that would stain a white shirt.
After that it is ordinary maintenance - a straw for iced coffee, water after red wine, and a hygiene visit at £60 a course, which lifts surface stain and is what most people mistake for the whitening wearing off.
Shade, gel and light
How your teeth are whitened
Whitening does one thing: it lifts the shade of your own enamel. It does not change crowns, veneers or fillings, and it does not have to be blinding. The starting shade is recorded, a target is agreed, and the gel and the time are chosen to get there without sensitivity. This is what happens.
01
Your shade now, and the shade you are aiming for
Before anything is done your teeth are matched to a tab on the standard shade guide, in daylight, and photographed beside it. That is the honest record of where you started. Most people lift six to eight shades; the target is agreed with you, not assumed.
02
In the chair
After a clean and polish, the gums are painted with a protective barrier and the gel goes on the teeth in thin layers, each one activated under the lamp for a quarter of an hour or so. The whole session is about an hour, and the shade is checked against the tab before you leave.
03
At home
Thin custom trays are made from a scan of your teeth so a milder gel sits exactly where it should and nowhere near the gums. A few nights of home wear after the clinic session settles the shade; the same trays top it up in the years after.
04
What is used
The active ingredient is a peroxide gel; the difference between the options is its strength and how long it stays on the teeth. Your plan says which you are getting and why.

Best for
In-clinic whitening
A stronger gel, applied by the clinician under a lamp.
The biggest lift in a single visit; some people feel a day of sensitivity.
Getting most of the way there in one afternoon.
Custom home trays
A milder gel in trays made for your teeth, worn for a few hours or overnight.
Gentler and more gradual; you control the end point.
Settling and topping up the result, and sensitive teeth.
Shop-bought strips
A weak gel on a one-size strip.
Some lift on the front teeth; uneven at the edges and past the gums.
Not something we recommend, but common, so it is here.
Six steps in the chair
How a whitening session runs
An hour in the chair, most of it under the lamp. Nothing is drilled, nothing is numbed, and you go straight out afterwards.
01Clean and polishPlaque and surface stain are polished off first, so the gel reaches the enamel evenly.
02The barrierA thin resin barrier is painted along the gum line and set with a light, to keep the gel off the gums.
03The gelThe whitening gel is applied to each tooth in a thin, even layer.
04The lightEach layer is activated under the lamp for around fifteen minutes; the gel is refreshed and the cycle repeated.
05The shade checkThe teeth are rinsed and matched against the shade guide beside your starting tab, in daylight.
06Home traysCustom trays and a milder gel go home with you to settle the shade and top it up later.
Answered plainly
Teeth whitening in Turkey: your questions answered
Still not sure? A clinician talks it through before you commit to anything.
£200 for a full professional course. Internal bleaching of a single dark root-treated tooth is £120 a tooth.
Does whitening damage enamel?
No. Supervised peroxide whitening lifts stain from within the enamel without removing it. The damage stories come from ill-fitting trays putting gel on gums, and from whitening over untreated decay.
Will it whiten my crowns and veneers?
No. Porcelain and composite hold the shade they were made. Whiten first, then match any new work to the result.
How many shades will I go?
Several for most people with ordinary staining. Nobody can promise a number in advance, and a clinic that does is guessing.
Why not just buy a kit online?
Because the tray is the whole thing. A generic tray leaks gel onto the gum, which is what burns. Kits sold to consumers in the UK are also capped at a peroxide concentration that does very little.
Can I combine whitening with other treatment?
Yes, and it usually should come first in the sequence - before crowns or veneers are shade-matched. It fits easily into a trip built around other work.
Is it safe if I have sensitive teeth?
Usually, with a desensitising paste beforehand and a gentler concentration. Tell the dentist at the check-up rather than pushing through it.
How long do results last?
One to three years depending on diet, and a top-up night with your own trays restores it rather than starting again.
Can I whiten while pregnant or breastfeeding?
It is normally deferred. There is no evidence of harm, but there is no good evidence of safety either, and it can wait.
